GreenHive Final Conference in Italy: students put system thinking into action

On 17 November, the Italian Final Conference of the GreenHive project took place at the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “E. Majorana” in Santa Maria a Vico (Caserta). The event, led by Lascò, brought together students, teachers, and local stakeholders for a morning dedicated to exploring the project’s outcomes and experiencing system thinking tools firsthand.

The conference opened with an introduction to the GreenHive initiative and a presentation of the results achieved across its two-year journey. Participants had the opportunity to discover the "GreenHive Community Platform", the learning resources developed within the project, and the broader vision behind Europe’s first Sustainability Education Ecosystem.

A key moment of the event was the System Innovation Laboratory, where students took part in a collaborative competition. Divided into teams, they applied the Green Hive Thinking Tools to analyse complex sustainability challenges and propose concrete, systemic solutions. Their work showcased not only creativity, but also an impressive capacity to reason in terms of interconnections, impacts, and long-term sustainability.

This Final Conference in Italy is part of a series of multiplier events taking place across all partner countries. Each conference aims to disseminate project findings, foster dialogue, and promote the adoption of innovative learning practices in VET contexts. The blended format of the events allows both local and international audiences to take part and engage with the project’s outcomes.

The enthusiasm and active participation of the students demonstrated the value of equipping young people with system thinking skills to navigate today’s environmental and societal complexity.

With the conclusion of the project, the GreenHive ecosystem continues to offer educators, trainers, and learners a collaborative space to build and strengthen sustainability competences across Europe.
